The Art of Nancy V. McTigue
Nancy V. McTigue is a direct descendant of American landscape artist Ralph Albert Blakelock. She was born and raised in the Mojave Desert area of California. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara and her medical degree and specialty training in psychiatry from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. She took art classes while attending UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego. Over the next 20 years, while working as a psychiatrist, she began a more traditional course of art training under the direction of La Jolla artist Sebastian Capella. Dr. McTigue closed her psychiatry practice in 2007 in order to paint full time.
In 2006 she enrolled at the Watts Atelier of the Arts in Encinitas, where she took classes until 2015. She painted with the Market Street Painting Group in La Jolla for several years and now paints with Suzy Schaefer’s Color Studio in Rancho Santa Fe. Her art is presently featured at the Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild.
